매니토바 Wab Kinew 주수상은 11월 미국 대통령 선거와 북미 자유무역협정 만료를 앞두고 더욱 견고한 양쪽의 관계를 구축하기 위해 매니토바 기업인, 노동 그리고 업계 대표단들과 3일간 (월 – 수 요일)의 일정으로 미국을 방문하고 있다.

2017년, 도널드 트럼프는 미국 대통령에 당선되자 1994년 체결된 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)를 종료하겠다는 위협을 했었다. 그의 이런 발언이 있은 후, 캐나다 정부는 미국인들에게 양국의 교역에 대한 이점을 설명하는데 광범위한 노력을 기울였다.
NAFTA를 대체하는 United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA, 2020년 7월부터 발효)는 2026년에 종료될 예정이다.
Kinew 주수상은 미국 국회원과 조직들이 매니토바를 알고 좋아하게 되기를 바란다고 했다.

Manitoba Business Council의 CEO Bram Strain도 이번 방문에 “Manitoba’s United Steelworkers와 Mining Association of Manitoba도 포함되어 있다”고 하면서, “같은 메시지를 갖고, 함께 여행하고, 같은 공간에서 토론하는 모습을 보여주는 것이 우리에게 상당히 유리하게 작용할 것으로 생각한다.”고 했다.
