그 결과, 최저임금이 물가상승률에 미치지 못하게 되었다. 6월 매니토바 인플레이션은 9.4 퍼센트였다. 2021년 물가상승률 3.4 퍼센트를 기준으로 할 경우에, 올해 10월 1일 인상되는 최저임금은 40 센트이다.
2020년에는 물가상승률이 0.5 퍼센트였기 때문에 지난해 최저임금 인상은 5 센트였다.
매니토바 주정부가 올해 6월 1일부터 적용하는 새로운 최저임금 인상법은 매니토바의 물가상승률이 적용연도의 첫 3개월동안 (10월 1일부터 12월 31일까지) 평균 5 퍼센트를 넘어설 경우에 최저임금을 추가로 인상할 수 있도록 하고 있다. 최저임금 인상은 발효되기 30일 전에 발표되어야 한다.
새로운 최저임금법에 따르면, 최저임금이 추가로 인상될 경우에 주정부는 다음연도 최저임금을 다시 인상하지 않기로 결정할 수도 있다.
