Amazon은 CFIB의 보고서가 잘못된 데이터를 기반으로 작성된 것이라는 반응을 나타냈다. 41,000개의 캐네이디언 중소기업이 Amazon Canada 온라인을 통해 2021년에 100 밀리언 개 이상의 제품을 판매했다는 것이 Amazon의 설명이다. 이는 분당 200개 이상으로 기업당 평균매출은 85,000 (미국) 달러 이상으로 파트너들에게 강력하고 비용 효율적인 서비스를 제공하고 있다는 것 또한 Amazon의 설명이다.
Amazon은 2020년 8월부터 경쟁국으로부터 지배력을 남용한 혐의로 조사를 받고 있지만, 아직 아무런 조치를 받고 있지 않은 상황이다.
CFIB는 중소기업의 성장률이 감소하고 있고, 매년 자영업을 시작하는 캐네이디언의 숫자가 감소하고 있다는 Statistics Canada의 데이터를 근거로 경쟁법 개혁이 중요하다고 했다.
한편, CFIB가 2020년 10월 3,607개 중소기업을 대상으로 실시한 조사에 따르면, 조사에 참여한 기업의 약 90 퍼센트는 Amazon, Walmart 그리고 eBay와 같은 대형 전자상거래 회사의 지배력이 캐나다 중소기업을 위협한다고 했다.
협회가 2023년 1월에 실시한 설문조사에 참여한 2,423개 중소기업 중에서 48 퍼센트는 디지털 경쟁업체와 경쟁하기가 점점 더 어려워지고 있다고 했다.
보고서는 스몰 비즈니스가 공급업체와의 협상에서 전자상거래 대기업의 적수가 되지 않는다고 했다.
CFIB는 보고서에서 Amazon이 캐나다에서 가장 인기있는 전자상거래 기업이라고 하면서 회사의 플랫폼에 비즈니스 프로필을 설정하는 것 이외에 더 많은 기능이 포함되도록 시장정책을 개선할 필요가 있다고 했다.
