Over a hundred restaurants in Winnipeg will take part in the celebration of the first-ever edition of La Pizza Week happening May 1 – 7, 2021.
For local Pizza Week ambassador, Daniel Gurevich, the ubiquitous dish is an obvious choice for a new food event.
“Pizza has found itself on the menus of so many different restaurants all across the city and for good reason,” Gurevich says via email. “It’s not limited to tomato sauce and cheese and this allows each restaurant to put their unique twist on their interpretation.”
Restaurants are only limited by their imagination and some entries have thrown out the traditional format entirely with pizza-flavoured tater tot poutine, subs, burgers and calzones.
Gurevich is happy with the number of local restaurants taking part in this first event.
“Our festivals have continued to grow throughout the years,” he says. “Winnipeg’s culinary scene continues to be very strong and we think restaurants are interested in new ways to reach customers during the pandemic.”
Orders can be placed for delivery, takeout and dine-in service in accordance with public health guidelines.
Diners are encouraged to try as many slices as they can and head over to lapizzaweek.com to vote for their favourite creations. Restaurants are competing for bragging rights and several sponsored awards. Winning categories include crowd favourite, most outrageous pizza and judge’s choice. (Source: Free Press, Access Winnipeg)
