    지지도가 더 추락한 매니토바 주수상

    매니토벤들은 Heather Stefanson 주수상의 팬데믹 대응책이 전임자인 Brian Pallister와 차이가 없다는 생각을 가진 것으로 보인다.

    Probe Research가 1월에 실시한 여론조사에 따르면, 매니토바 Heather Stefanson 주수상의 팬데믹 성과에 대해 10명 중에서 3명만 긍정적인 평가를 내리는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 Pallister가 지난 8월 Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba 리더 사임을 발표했던 당시와 비슷한 수준이다. Stefanson 주수상은 11월부터 그의 역할을 맡고 있다.

    매니토바 주정부에서 Health를 담당하는 Audrey Gordon 장관도 좋은 평가를 받지 못하고 있다. Gordon 장관에 대해서는 10명 중에서 4명만 잘하고 있는 것으로 평가를 했는데, 이는 지난해 10월 이후 12 퍼센트나 추락한 것이다.

    Probe Research의 여론조사 결과에 대해, Brandon University의 Kelly Saunders 교수 (Political science 전공)는 브랜든 선과의 인터뷰에서 “매니토밴들이 행복하지 않다는 것을 Stefanson 정부에 전하는 아주 분명한 메시지이다.”고 말했다.

    Saunders 교수는 다음선거 (2023년 10월 3일 또는 그 이전에 실시되어야 함)에서 분명히 핵심 이슈가 될 것으로 예상했다.

    Angus Reid가 지난주에 실시한 여론조사에서도 Stefanson 주수상의 지지율은 21 퍼센트였다 이는 캐나다 전국의 주수상들 중에서 지지율이 가장 낮은 것이다. Angus Reid 여론조사에서는 또한 5명 중에서 1명만 Stefanson 주수상이 팬데믹에 잘 대처하고 있는 것으로 답했다.

    Saunders 교수는 오미크론을 포함한 여러가지 상황을 고려해 보았을 때 Stefanson 주수상이 지금의 낮은 지지율을 극복하는 것은 상당히 어려울 것이라고 했다.  

    Probe Research의 Curtis Brown 사장도 매니토밴들이 Heather Stefanson 주수상에게 좋은 점수를 줄 기분이 아니라는 것을 말하는 것이라고 했다.

    매니토밴들은 COVID-19 팬데믹과의 싸움에 대해, 두명의 정치인에게는 낮은 점수 그리고 두명의 관료에 대해서는 높은 점수를 주었다.

    Joss Reimer 박사 (매니토바 백신 태스크포스의 메디컬 리더)에 대해서는 잘하고 있다는 평가가 77 퍼센트였고, Brent Roussin 박사 (Chief Provincial Public Health Officer)는 71 퍼센트였다.

    정치인 그리고 관료에 대해 완전히 다른 결과를 나타내는 이유에 대해, University of Manitoba 정치학과 Royce Koop 교수는 프리 프레스와의 인터뷰에서 “정치인과 관료에 대한 지지율 차이를 보는 것이 정말로 흥미롭다. 이것은 설문조사에 참여하는 사람들이 어느정도 세밀한지를 보여주는 것”이라고 했다.

    전반적인 여론조사 결과에 따르면, 주정부가 매니토밴들의 건강을 보호하기 위해 일을 잘하고 있다고 생각하는 사람은 팬데믹 이후 가장 낮은 5명 중에서 2명 수준이었다 (지난해 10월 이후 10 퍼센트 포인트 하락).

    Tories는 팬데믹 기간에 경제를 유지하는 능력에 대해서도 좋은 평가를 받지 못했다. 설문조사 참여자들은 현재의 주정부 경제정책에 대해 40 퍼센트만 잘하고 있는 것으로 생각하고 있다. 이 숫자는 지난 10월 이후 9 퍼센트 포인트 하락한 것이다.

    이번 조사는 매니토바 성인 800명을 대상으로 1월 19일부터 26일까지 실시되었으며, 표본오차는 ±3.5 퍼센트 포인트이다.
