사스캐치완 주정부는 현재 캐나다에서 가장 낮은 최저임금 시간당 11.81 달러를 올해 10월 1일부터 시간당 13.00 달러로 인상한다고 5월 3일 발표하였다. 사스캐치완 주정부는 또한 2023년 14달러 그리고 2024년까지 시간당 15 달러로 인상한다는 계획을 갖고 있다고 했다.
현재 최저임금이 11.95 달러인 매니토바는 2021년 연간 임금상승률 3.4 퍼센트를 반영한 40센트를 인상한다고 하여도 12.35 달러인데, 이는 전국에서 가장 낮은 금액이다.
Manitoba Federation of Labour는 화요일 보도자료에서 뉴 브런즈윅과 사스캐치완 주정부는 올해 최저임금을 대폭적으로 인상한다는 방안을 갖고 있다고 했다.
Manitoba Federation of Labour는 보도자료에서 “우리는 매니토바 근로자들이 더 좋은 대우를 받을 수 있어야 한다는 생각을 갖고 있다. 매니토바 주정부가 최저임금을 생활임금으로 만들기위한 즉각적인 조치를 취해야 할 때이다.”고 말했다.
매니토바 주정부는 인플레이션에 연동한 최저임금 정책을 사용하고 있다. 2021년 최저임금은 2020년 인플레이션 0.5 퍼센트를 반영하여 지난해 10월에 5센트 인상하였다.
캐나다 전체적으로, 시간당 최저임금이 가장 높은 곳은 16달러의 누나붓이다.
