Indiana University의 Richard Wilk 교수는2021년에 발표한 톱 빌리어네어들의 연간 배출량 추정치 발표에서, 슈퍼요트 (승무원, 헬리콥터 착륙장, 잠수함 그리고 수영장 시설을 갖춤)가 연간 약 7,020톤의 이산화탄소를 배출한다고 했다. 이는 일반적인 가족 승용차보다 1,500배나 높은 수치이다.
