May is Motorcycle Safety Month.
Motorcycles and vehicles both have an equal right to the road.
MPI Media Relations Officer Brian Smiley notes there are 11,000-12,000 motorcycles registered in Manitoba.
Smiley gives these tips to motorcyclists: “You should be wearing the right gear, including the safety helmet, eye protection, jackets, pants, and boots. You should always try to be very visible. Often, motorists don’t see motorcycles out there. They’re not as large as the trucks and passenger vehicles, so wear bright colours like orange and red to increase your visibility.”
Smiley suggests that motorcyclists should also ride with their headlights on for better visibility.
