What’s Open, Closed 2020 New Year’s Day


Most malls, including CF Polo Park and St. Vital Centre are closed Wednesday, Jan. 1.

The Forks Market is open.

Most grocery stores, including Safeway, Sobeys, Superstore and Walmart, are closed.

Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for the holiday, so Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corp. suggests the best way to find out if the one near you will be open is to call.


The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Manitoba Museum is open Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Children’s Museum is open Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is open New Year’s Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Movie theatres are open New Year’s Day.


Recycling and garbage will be collected the following day.

The Brady Road landfill is closed.


All Leisure Centres are closed.

City of Winnipeg swimming pools are closed.


On New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, bus service is free from 7 p.m. until end of service. The last buses leave downtown at approximately 1:35 a.m.

On Wednesday, buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.

The Winnipeg Parking Authority office is closed Wednesday

The Winnipeg Animal Services Agency is closed Wednesday.

There is no mail delivery on Wednesday. Canada Post offices are closed, but post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.
