2019 JCAM Annual Gala Dinner

Saturday Oct 26, 2019

Canad Inns Polo Park

The Gala Dinner is the only formal event of the year on the JCAM calendar. Instead of requiring the usual small army of volunteers to decorate and set up the hall, prepare and serve the food, and clean up afterwards, we get professionals to do all that. The Gala is a time for our members and volunteers to enjoy a relaxing, elegant evening together with their friends and guests. In fact, we traditionally honour a couple of our volunteers at the Gala. This year, we are formally recognizing Lucy Yamashita and Keiko Miki for their outstanding contributions to the community over past decades. In addition, we shall be honouring Samantha Courtney as the recipient of the 2019 Harold Hirose Education Fund scholarship.

Come celebrate with us. The theme of the 2019 Gala is New Beginnings (新たな始まり”) – a nod to the completion of the Phase I renovations at the Japanese Cultural Centre and to the first year of the Reiwa era in Japan. Tetsuro Shigematsu of the acclaimed “Empire of the Son” theatrical production will be our guest speaker, and Hinode Taiko will provide the entertainment. It will be a memorable evening. Tickets are only $80 (tax receipt issued for $40) or $700 for a table of 10 (tax receipts totaling $300 issued).

Tickets can be purchased online or in person at JCAM.  If purchased online, the actual ticket will be available for pick up either at JCAM centre or at the event. So come out to support YOUR community and make JCAM a better place for everyone!

“This world of ours… must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect.”
