According to Manitoba’s Remembrance Day Act, retail businesses are prohibited to operate between 9:00am and 1:00pm on Remembrance Day.
The prohibition does not apply to a retail business if the only goods or services sold between 9:00am and 1:00pm are:
– goods or services in the form of or in connection with living accommodation or prepared meals and sale or offering for sale of those goods or services is the principal business of the person;
– professional health services
– veterinary services
– drugs, medicines, surgical appliances or infant formula
– gasoline, motor oil or related products; or parts and services for the purpose of emergency repairs to a vehicle.
Restaurants can open, but liquor cannot be served until 1:00pm.
Outlet Collection, CF Polo Park Shopping Centre, St. Vital Shopping Centre, Kildonan Place, Garden City Shopping Centre and IKEA are all open at 1:00pm and close at 6:00pm.
Grant Park Shopping Centre opens at 1:00pm and closes at 5:00pm.
Walmart, Superstore and Safeways/Sobeys are open 1:00pm to 11:00pm
Shoppers Drug Marts are open 1:00pm to regular closing hours.
Liquor Marts are open 1:00pm to regular closing hours.
Casinos of Winnipeg will be open at 1:00pm to regular closing hours.
All movie theatres will open at 1:00pm to regular closing hours
There are no changes to recycling, garbage and yard waste collection since Remembrance Day falls on a Sunday.
To honour the men and women who have sacrificed for our country, Winnipeg Transit will be offering free transit service to armed forces veterans, current serving personnel, including cadets and reservists, and one companion. Those who wish to use this free service may do so by wearing a military uniform, or by presenting a military identification or CF1 card at the time of boarding.
Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule.
Winnipeg Transit will be observing one minute of silence in honour of Remembrance Day. At 11 a.m., Transit operators will pull over and stop their buses at safe locations to recognize one minute of silence.
Also in honour of Remembrance Day, the bus route/destination signs will scroll with the message “Lest We Forget” in addition to the usual route information all day on November 11.
LIBRARIES All Winnipeg Public Library branches will be closed on Sunday AND Monday, November 12.
LEISURE CENTRES All Leisure Centres are closed on Sunday.
SWIMMING POOLS All City of Winnipeg indoor swimming pools are closed on Sunday with the exception of the Margaret Grant Pool, the Pan Am Pool and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex.
The Margaret Grant and Pan Am Pools will be open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
ANIMAL SERVICES AGENCY
The Animal Services Agency will be closed on Sunday, and operating on limited hours on Monday, November 12 – Noon to 5 p.m.
CEMETERIES Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital, and Transcona Cemeteries will be closed for visitation Sunday. They will open Monday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
All Cemetery offices will be closed on Monday.
WINNIPEG PARKING AUTHORITY The Winnipeg Parking Authority will be closed on Monday, November 12.
