The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Toronto, in partnership with U of T Centre for the Study of Korea at Munk School of Global Affairs (CSK) and U of T Korean Students Association (UTKSA), will host the “2018 UofT Korea Week” from Monday, October 22nd to Friday, October 26th.
The 2018 festival co-hosts include the Korea Club, East Asian Studies Student’s Union (EASSU), Korean Outreach Volunteer Association (KOVA), East Asian Library, York University, Arirang Korea TV, Narae Events, Korean Education Centre in Canada and the Korea Tourism Organization.
This festival, under the theme of “Global Korea: A New Era” will be filled with many exciting events that take place in various venues throughout the week: ▲ Speaker Series ▲ Golden Bell Quiz ▲ Showcasing Korea Culture in Canada: History of the ROM’s Korean Collection ▲ Running Man ▲ The Road Called Life: K-Animation Movie Screening & Q&A ▲ Toronto Non Summit ▲ KorXCan Mixer ▲ K-Pop Night & Taste of Korea.
As the Opening event for 2018 Korea Week, the Speaker Series will feature an opportunity to hear from Dr. Jaiwon Shin, Associate Administrator for the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters, who will share his insight on 21st Century Innovation. The Speaker Series will take place on Monday, October 22nd at 6:00 pm at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education Auditorium, free and open to everyone.
In cooperation with the many organizations, this year’s festival will showcase a diverse array of events introducing and promoting Korean culture to our audience. The highlight of the 2018 Korea Week is the K-Pop Night & Taste of Korea: Korean Food Festival on Friday, October 26th from 4:30 pm at Nathan Phillips Square.
As K-Pop has become a truly global phenomenon, the K-Pop Night: K-Pop Contest returns to Toronto bigger than ever with the aim of connecting local communities to Korea’s culture. The K-Pop Night invites K-Pop cover dance and song artists to share their talents and passion with the audience. Cash Prizes will be awarded to the winners. (1st place: $1,000, 2nd place: $600, 3rd place: $400)

This free public event includes a special demonstration of Korean & Korean-inspired cuisine by a team of chefs led by celebrity chef San Kim and booths to interactively participate in making and sampling various Korean dishes, as well as Korean cultural performances to enjoy.
